Hi all :D
I'm back with assignment 3!! This assignment is about making 'a mark-making book'. When I got briefing for this assignment, I was like 'I just finished CTS fantasy book assignment but book again :| But, I also thought that since I already have an experience about making book so this time maybe a bit easier to me. For this assignment, we were to produce 10 pieces of mark making exploration(A5), 3 book mock-up constructions and one final book(A5)! We can use any unconventional tools but must be BLACK & WHITE (as well in between GREY). So, let's do mark making!!
1. Exploration of Mark Making
At first I didn't really know how to start and a bit scared to start as well. The first tool I used was a clothespin. Interestingly, mark from the clothespin looked like a letter 'A' :) Also, I tried to compose in some different ways. I also used sponge, card board, corrugated card board, leaf, cotton, wooden stick and etc. I actually also tried with fork, unwanted paper, thread, cups, old card, rubber band and etc but I pasted in my final book so take a look at them below :D I wanted to explore as much as I can to find tools that have potential and is nice to mark! As a result, personally, I like sponge and paper cup the most.
2. Book Mock-Up

I made total 9 mock-ups. At first I planned to make only 4 mock-ups but the more I made the more I came up with ideas! So end up, I got 9 ;) I think it's really fun to do!! And, I didn't want them to be too small so I made them about 6cm x 10cm with old magazines. I made pockets for mock-ups as well :D And, I took a video of 3 favorite mock-ups! so watch it!
3. Final Book
So, this is my final book :D
I chose my first mock-up as a final book form and mixed with 3rd together. Front side is for BLACK and back side is for WHITE. I used mounting board to make front and back covers. Also, I used fabric (took my old clothes haha) to wrap covers. I really like this fabric because it matches with the theme 'black and white'. The thing I like the most about my book is marbles on cover. It makes my book to be look more nicer (haha) and it is really well-matched with theme and design of the book, too.
Overall, I am really satisfied with my final book :D Actually I faced quite a lot of problems while I tried to make it because I didn't really plan about how to make in detail. I was panicing the day before submission T.T I tried so hard to solve some problems that I faced and luckily I solved! I made myself a promise that I will plan properly before I start making something :\
This assignment was very new but interesting to me. I never tried this kind of things before and never thought of mark-making either. I was actually really surprised about how unwanted stuff can create beautiful marks and those can be some great artworks too! One thing I like about mark-making technique is you can create an artwork with just random stuff around you and paints. I think it's very unique technique and I'm sure that I'll apply this technique to my other project in the future :D
Bye Bye :)
